Sociology:
Objectives:
Students will be able to:
~identify and explain the significance of the five institutions (family, religion, education, economy, government) determine the health of society
~express orally and in writing their assessment of the health of each of the institutions at this time and the part they will play in the success of students’ future lives
~identify orally and in writing elements of strong marriages and family units
~identify elements of successful parenting and the three types of parenting: permissive, authoritative & authoritarian
Monday: Essay Test over previous week’s study
Tuesday: lecture & discussion of basic elements of society
Wednesday & Thursday: Building a Society game (include division of labor, task assignments, rules, economy etc).
Friday: Presentation of projects
Evaluation: grading of test & projects

Introduction of Journalism:
Objectives:
Students will be able to:
~demonstrate their ability to write a movie review using AP Stylebook rules
~identify elements of award winning yearbook pubications
~demonstrate orally & in writing understanding of theme design elements in yearbook development
~demonstrate knowledge of use of color and design elements in yearbook design orally and through presentation development
~demonstrate understanding of effective font choice when developing publication design (orally and in presentation)
Monday: Read & discuss movie review over film O Brother Where Art Thou
Tuesday-Friday: lecture & discussion of nationally award winning yearbooks
websites used will include: Columbia Scholastic Press Association, National Scholastic Press Association, Quill & Scroll, Interscholastic League Press Association
Yearbook samples will also be analyzed by students both orally and in writing to hone their skills at identifying superior elements of design
