Sociology:
Students will:
~identify basic elements of society building
~explain how survivors rationalized their behaviors to survive emotionally & psychologically
~identify qualities and characteristics of survivors
~explain the importance of religion to the survival of this particular group
~identify qualities of leadership and denote the different kinds of leadership necessary in a group as needs change
~reflect on the qualities that students have that might enable them to survive a life-threatening situation
~project how individuals and their lives would be different after surviving such an experience
Monday: finish film ALIVE
Tuesday: TAKS day
Wednesday: discuss film, essay test
Thursday: view Alive: 20 Years later & Return to the Andes
Friday: Survivor game
Evaluation: Teacher assessment of class discussion and grading of essay test

Intro to Journalism:
students will be able:
~discuss current events (situation in Libya) demonstrate understanding after reading newspaper account
~demonstrate understanding orally and in writing yearbook staff rules; basic AP Style book rules that are used most often
~explain how to adequately cover an event for the newspaper or yearbook
~identify basic theme elements
Monday: read Longview News-Journal: Libyan story current events
handout: the WRITE STUFF
Tuesday: TAKS day
Wednesday: handout: Yearbook Staff Commandments review, AP Style Rules, How to Cover An Event
Thursday & Friday: identify theme development orally and in writing from sample yearbooks
