Sociology:
Students will demonstrate the ability to:
~identify the strengths & weaknesses of the American education system
~propose ways to ameliorate or minimize systemic problems in education
~create in writing a list of innovative solutions to address education’s weaknesses
~develop a personal individual educational plan for college and career
Monday:
~examine Texas education statistics compared to the nation
~examine United States education statistics compared to other countries
Tuesday:
~write a response based on research findings
~Wednesday:
~research and identify problems that contribute to limited or minimal success in education in America
~Thursday:
~after examining issue of poverty and its impact on education begin the documentary: Country Boys
~Friday: PBS documentary continued

Introduction to Journalism:
~students will be able to identify basic elements of yearbook graphic design
~students will be able to:
~identify importance of use of color in design
~identify unifying elements in graphic design
~demonstrate a basic understanding of photographic composition rules
~demonstrate a basic understanding of photo placement in graphic design
Monday-Thursday:
Lecture & class discussion using multiple resources: yearbooks, websites
Friday: handout National Scholastic Press Association critique handbook and read in preparation of individually critiquing a yearbook
