Sociology:
Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of the following:
cultural and economic impact of advertising in America; identification of target demographics; explain Postman’s Theory of information transmission; explain orally and in writing how fads, fashions and trends illustrate cultural shifts in society
Monday: Overview of impact of advertising on culture
Superbowl ads past & present
discuss demographics, analyze effectiveness of ads and impact on consumer and societal culture
Tuesday: Continue unit on advertising and culture
Explain Postman’s theory of information transmission
identify aspects of consumer culture in America
Wednesday: Written response to unit: identification of teens as target audience in advertising
Thursday: Sec. 2-chpt. 1 historical background of Sociology
Friday: Complete chapter & quiz

Introduction to Journalism:
Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of role marketing and advertising play in America economically and in communications.
Students will analyze ads through discussion and written evaluation; students will demonstrate understanding through group collaboration and creation of an ad campaign for a product targeting teens
Monday: Impact of marketing & advertising in field of communications economically and as a career;
Tuesday: Superbowl ads–evaluate effectiveness of ads, identify target audience, explain the importance of demographics in marketing
Wednesday: break into groups and create a print ad for a product targeting teenagers; include plans for multimedia marketing of product on television, radio and social networking media
Thursday: continue project
Friday: continue project (presentation of projects beginning Monday)
